Anthony Steains is the CEO of Comprador. He is based in Hong Kong. Prior to founding Comprador in 2015, Mr. Steains was Senior Managing Director and Head of Blackstone Advisory Partners in Asia and Global Head of Metals and Mining Coverage, based in Hong Kong.
Prior to joining Blackstone in 2008, Mr. Steains was Managing Director, Head of Industrials coverage and Head of Asia Corporate Finance Group at Lehman Brothers in Hong Kong.
Prior to Lehman Brothers, Mr. Steains was Head of Industrials & Resources and Head of Mergers & Acquisitions for Deutsche Bank in Asia and prior to Deutsche Bank, Head of Mergers & Acquisitions in Asia for ING Barings.
Mr. Steains qualified as a Chartered Accountant in Australia with Coopers & Lybrand.
Mr. Steains has over 30 years of Investment Banking experience in Asia, especially in the Mergers & Acquisitions and Natural Resources space. He managed several of Asia's landmark corporate finance transactions including the US$20 billion IPO of AIA, the restructuring of Noble Group’s US$4 billion senior claims, Chinalco on its US$14 billion acquisition of 12% of Rio Tinto plc and the US$5 billion restructuring of Hynix Semiconductor.
In addition to leading the successful restructuring for Hynix, Mr. Steains played an important role in helping Hynix execute the plan, including advising the company on the disposal of System IC to CVC for US$900 million, advising on the US$2 billion China joint venture with STMicroelectronics, working on the US$3 billion CRPA re-financing including the US$500 million global bond offering and the initial US$2 billion creditor equity sell-down.
Mr. Steains graduated from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Business, he holds a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) from the University of London and he is a member of Chartered Accountants (ANZ), Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment and the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
